What to do when those Christmas gifts and you can not get anything in return?

I am raising 4 children on my own, without support of the child and only have part-time work (I'm in school full time), what should I do when people continue to receive gifts from me and I have nothing to give them in return. You can not afford to buy things. I thought of making all homemade sweets for gifts and now I feel like it's not good enough. What to do?
